Connected Learning Summit 2023
TALON is presenting at the Connected Learning Summit 2023 #CLSummit2023, which is kicking off today. TALON, the Teaching and Learning Online Network, will talk about online teaching and learning - and present voices from the digital classroom. Fabian Neuhaus–SAPL professor is the Principal Investigator and Sandra Abegglen – SAPL researcher, is the Project Lead for the TALON project.
The City of Calgary is hosting free virtual learning opportunities this week with community leaders, entrepreneurs, prominent climate experts and City staff to discuss climate change impacts to Calgary, the actions we can take as Calgarians, and the importance of keeping the conversation going. The Climate Symposium offers a wide variety of learning and discussion opportunities, whether you’re a Calgarian interested in learning how to make a change, an educator who may want their class to attend a virtual event and learn more, or a professional looking to incorporate climate action into your work.

The Architecture & Design Film Festival (ADFF) is returning to the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto this November for the 2023/24 season. The Canadian festival in Toronto will be taking place from November 1 - 4, and will be showing documentaries about architecture and design from around the world.
In a celebration of one of the 20th century’s most influential architects, SAPL hosted a remarkable exhibition and lecture that shed light on the enduring legacy of the iconic Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier (1887-1965).
The OBEL AWARD Teaching Fellowships brings the professional and academic realms closer together by enhancing the debate and learnings of the themes of the award. These themes reflect pressing issues and express the potential of architecture and design to positively impact our built environment. Nooshin Esmaeili – PhD student at SAPL, is the recipient of one of three inaugural international Obel Award Teaching Fellowships. Read about it here
The Ogden Block, at 7044 Ogden Road, has a long and interesting history. Built-in 1914 by Chinese immigrants, the structure was originally used as a Chinese laundry. Many people have worked hard to have the historic building removed from the Green Line LRT demolition list.
The Millican Ogden Heritage Group are planning an event to celebrate the local history of Ogden in Spring of 2024 and are looking for someone to donate artist renderings of the Ogden block in situ with the Green Line station. The National Urban Design Awards are now open until Thursday, January 11, 2024. Submissions can be made directly from individual students or groups of students enrolled in an accredited program in architecture, landscape architecture, and/or planning in the past two years. Such students and student groups may also be nominated by their schools to submit. Students and schools may forward submissions from studio or thesis projects with an emphasis on urban design.

The mystery of the Yellow Cubes has finally been solved! If you have been keeping your eyes peeled, you would have noticed these Yellow Cubes scattered around campus at certain locations.
