Hedgehog’s Dilemma | Luka Lachner | BDCI
Year: 2022
Media: Acrylic on canvas Size: 143.0 cm x 91.0 cm Description: Inspired by the question, why is connection between individuals emotionally straining? The answer stems from Schopenhauer’s philosophy about how the will of life forces individuals to cling to things even though it hurts. The figure’s symbolise this through the red pain seeping into the skin where they touch each other. Regardless, they hang on because they understand that mutual unintended harm will happen as a result of human intimacy. The figure’s gaze makes the viewer contemplate this.
