AAVA Conference

The AAVA would like to extend an invitation to all AAVA, EAVA and WAVA members to attend the 2019 AAVA Conference in Banff, Alberta

The University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine boasts a 740 square metre, state of the art anatomy facility, which includes a fully equipped plastination lab, bone preparation workshop and teaching laboratory. Tours will be arranged both before and after the conference. This is a perfect opportunity to connect with new colleagues from around the globe.

This conference is a forum for sharing new information on research and teaching in all areas of morphological sciences (e.g. human and animals). In addition to researchers and teachers from anatomy, researchers from areas such as pathology and others who use morphological methods to address scientific questions are also welcome to present at the meeting.

Abstract Submission

Submission is Closed

Acceptance of abstracts will be communicated by early May, 2019

Notification of revisions will be communicated by early April, 2019

Abstracts will be published in the October Issue of Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia

Wet Lab (Optional)

An optional wet lab of different topic choices and a tour of the Clinical Skills Building Anatomy Lab space at the University of Calgary, Spyhill Campus, will be held on Friday July 26^th.

Awards

The AAVA Executive have allocated significant funding to support participation of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. There will be five AAVA Travel Awards of $1000 USD each given to graduate students/PDF that are current members of AAVA.
Bursaries will be available to students by the Local Organizing Committee

The AAVA has funded prizes of $250 USD each to graduate students/PDF winners in platform and poster categories respectively. The local organizing committee will be adding $150 USD awards for second place graduate students/PDF winners of platform and poster categories.

Registration Fees

Delegates must register by June 21, 2019 to have abstracts printed in conference proceedings.

*You must book your hotel room at the Banff Centre in addition to completing the online registration, even if you select “hotel conference registration package”. It was not possible to link the two. Please click here to book the hotel room, recommended check in: Friday July 26 to check out: Monday July 29. These great rates are available for 3 days before/after the conference as well.

Keynote Speaker

Christine Theoret, DVM (U Montreal 1991), is a full professor at the University of Montreal where she teaches veterinary anatomy and surgery in the undergraduate DMV program. After a residency program in equine surgery (U Saskatchewan 1995), she qualified to become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (1997). Dr. Theoret received her PhD degree, studying the molecular mechanisms that govern healing and scarring, from the University of Saskatchewan (2000). In 2002, Dr. Theoret founded the Comparative Veterinary Tissue Healing Laboratory at the University of Montreal, where she has trained more than 30 highly qualified research personnel, mostly MSc and PhD students. Her research program, funded by government, industry and private foundations, has basic and translational components, mainly focusing on fibroproliferative disorders using the horse as a model.
She is senior editor of the third edition of the Equine Wound Management textbook published by Wiley in 2017. Dr. Theoret has served on the advisory boards of national and international associations, including a term as President of the Veterinary Wound Management Society. In June 2018 Dr. Theoret became the first female Dean of the veterinary faculty of the University of Montreal, for a 5-year term.
