WESTCAST 2024

About WestCAST

The Werklund School of Education is proud to host this year’s WestCAST (Western Canadian Association for Student Teaching) conference.

WestCAST is an education conference held annually by the Faculties of Education in the western provinces of Canada. WestCAST 2024 will be held April 3-5, 2024 at the University of Calgary, bringing together over 200 education faculty and teacher education students for three days of conversation and engagement on topics that are relevant in today’s world of teaching.

This year, WestCAST 2024 invites pre-service teachers, Education students, teacher educators, and practicing teachers to submit presentations and participate in sessions that focus on the theme of “Re-Inspire | Re-Connect”.

Getting Around

Where will the conference be taking place?

WestCAST 2024 is being hosted by the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary (2500 University DR NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 1N4). All sessions will take place in the Education Tower (EDT) and Education Block (EDC) buildings, which face the bus loop on the 24th Avenue NW side of campus. All room numbers start with their floor, Ie, EDC 179 is on the first floor of the Education Block, while EDC 357 is on the third.

Prior to coming to campus, we suggest checking out Main Campus maps, including the room finder!

Note: If your session is taking place in EDC 370A, be aware that this classroom is in the Doucette Library - simply enter the library, and walk to the back right side of the space.

What amenities are available?

Accessible bathrooms are available on each of the conference floors. Elevator access is available to all floors via the Education Tower elevator block. To reach the third floor of the Education Block, take the Education Tower elevator up to the third floor, and turn right upon exiting, heading across the link into the Block.

Your Time on Campus

How do I connect to WiFi?

  • Head to EDT 202 the mornings of Thursday, April 4th, and Friday, April 5th, for coffee, pastries, and fruit!
  • Come back to EDT 202 for lunch on Thursday, April 4th!

We also have a refillable water bottle station on the third floor of the Education Block, next to EDC 357. Bring your own water bottle, and join us in meeting our campus sustainability goals!

Looking for snacks outside of our pizza, coffee, and lunch hours? Campus has a tonne of food options! Feel free to head to our Information Table to ask for recommendations and navigation!

Look for our volunteers at the information table, which will be located:

  • In front of EDC 179 on Wednesday, April 3rd, starting at 4.30pm;
  • In the first floor link between the Education Tower and Block on Thursday, April 4th, and Friday, April 5th, starting at 8.30am.

What about the program?

We're going paperless! Visit the WestCAST site, or look for the QR code on our WestCAST posters to link to the program using your mobile device. Our information table will also have copies of the program if required, and we'll ensure that schedules are up on each of our session rooms.

For Presenters

What do I need to bring to my presentation?

Given the wide range of personal laptops, operating systems, system upgrades, and more, we highly suggest bringing any digital materials on an external USB, and/or emailing presentation copies to yourself. All classrooms contain a podium including a Dell computer with monitor, document camera, audio system, touch-screen control system, and projector.

Our amazing volunteers will also be on hand to help you get set-up, and liaise with CommMedia as necessary!
