New: CR/F (Credit/Fail) Course Grades for Fall 2020
As part of ongoing efforts to support student mental health and wellness, the University of Calgary is implementing flexible grading options for one of your Fall 2020 courses. This decision is in response to concerns raised about the stress many students continue to face during COVID-19. For a single graded course in which a grade of B- or above is achieved, graduate students can request the CR option rather than having their letter grade shown on their transcript.
CR grades are not included in GPA calculations; however, failing grades (C+ and below) will remain unchanged and will be used in GPA calculations.
You must request the CR grade by January 15, 2021. Details will be posted here and will be shared in upcoming issues of GRADpost. These measures will apply to any course scheduled during the Fall 2020 term, including regular, block week, and non-standard courses. Any courses scheduled over both Fall and Winter terms are exempt from flexible grading at this time.
There could be longer-term impacts of selecting a CR grade. Please consult with your supervisor, instructor or Graduate Program director if you have questions about potential impacts:
CR grades can affect a student’s ability to meet admission requirements for future programs, including further graduate and professional programs.
CR grades are not typically accepted for transfer credit at other institutions.
CR grades may impact your eligibility for scholarship consideration.
