Students, trainees, faculty and staff, I’m thrilled to announce an exciting new chapter for cancer research in Calgary. A new memorandum of understanding (MOU) has taken effect between Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the University of Calgary, which strengthens the partnership between our organizations and formally establishes the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute as an institute that spans the research continuum from basic discovery science to informing best practice and patient care. The MOU also provides a new framework to share ideas, improve cancer care through research and facilitate joint funding initiatives. Read more about the new MOU. Return to campus
- We all have an important role to play in keeping our campus community safe. Before entering any building on campus, please pause and ensure that you’re wearing a face covering, even if you’re entering the building for just a few minutes. Learn more about how to keep our campus community safe and healthy.
- UCalgary has drafted guidelines for faculty and staff who prepare and consume meals and beverages on campus. Review the guidelines.
- Human Resources has launched a “Quick Start” training program for employees and leaders to ensure those who are returning to campus can do so safely. As a reminder, those who can work productively and safely from home should continue to do so. If you have questions about this program or the return to campus protocols, please contact the Integrated Service Centre, your HR Partner or send an email to [email protected].
- A reminder that on Aug. 31, AHS will reinstate parking fees for faculty and staff who park in AHS owned lots. Review the Aug. 19 message for information about how to cancel your parking and what will happen if you later decide to reinstate it.
- The TRW parkade will be closed on Aug. 29 and 30 for repairs. If required, permit holders can park in the TRW service zone area during this time.
Learning and working
- A team of Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) researchers, led by Dr. Shannon Ruzycki, MD, are conducting a survey to measure the diversity of Albertan physicians and their experiences of harassment and discrimination in the workplace. If you’re a physician, I invite you to complete the brief survey. It will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes, is voluntary and your responses will be kept anonymous.
- In 2021, we’ll present the CSM Alumni of Distinction Award in recognition of outstanding contributions in three categories — service, education and research. Nominations will be accepted until Sept. 30, 2020. Learn more.
Mental health and wellness
- Remote mental health support is available to students, faculty and staff who need it. Learn more.
