To our graduate students: during these extraordinary times, we hope that you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy. As with much of the university community, our team is now almost entirely working remotely and we will strive to continue providing the best possible support to you. Please refer to our FGS COVID-19 information page for guidance on issues specific to graduate students, including remote oral exams, supervision, research activities, Graduate Assistant Teacher duties and more. Here’s an overview of some of the measures we are taking in response to the COVID-19 situation:
Advising: The Faculty of Graduate Studies is transitioning to remote advising effective immediately. Students are encouraged to contact FGS at 403-220-4938 or by email: [email protected] (general inquiries) or [email protected] (awards). You can also contact our Student Team by email [email protected] or schedule an appointment through Orbis. We understand that students may have inquiries that normally require in-person support. Enrollment Services has compiled an FAQ website based on common inquiries at this time of the year and provided some alternatives for students to access these transactions/supports in alternative ways. If in doubt, students can contact the Faculty of Graduate Studies and we will work to determine the best way to support them and their specific circumstances.
Thesis submissions: All students must submit their final thesis forms by email to [email protected], instead of in person. Please login with your CAS credentials at www.prism.ucalgary.ca/login prior to submitting your forms so that you can be set up with access to the Vault. Please contact your GPO If you are facing a COVID-19 related delay in submitting your thesis.
Candidacy and thesis exams: Newregulations have been developed to support remote candidacy and thesis exams, in effect from now until the end of August.
Completion of Candidacy Examinations: As a one-time exception - students who have a successful examination up to the end of day Friday, May 8, are eligible to have their fees changed to a continuing rate.
3MT: The UCalgary Three Minute Thesis competition will be postponed. Feedback sessions and heats have been cancelled. More communication will be sent out in the next few weeks as we monitor the situation.
TTI: In-person inquiries about the Transformative Talent Internship have been suspended until further notice. For assistance, students can connect with us via email ([email protected]) to set up a virtual appointment.
Efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus are impacting several events and initiatives around campus. Please check the university's coronavirus webpage frequently to stay informed on the latest developments in this rapidly changing situation.
Spring general fees Most graduate students are registered for a 12 month period. General Fees (Campus Recreation, UPass, Student Services) are collected in the Fall, Winter and Spring terms, regardless of whether students are taking a course in that term.
