New Section Chief for Inpatient, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Announcement from Recovery Alberta Dr. Michael Stubbs has been appointed as the new Section Chief for Inpatient, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry, effective September 1, 2024. He previously served as Clinical Medical Director of emergency mental health services at Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) for 11 years and as physician lead for the Children's Day Treatment Program (CDTP). Dr. Stubbs continues his longstanding role as physician lead for the Emerging Adult Treatment Clinic (EATC), where he was the sole psychiatrist for several years. Additionally, he has worked as a clinician for the Psychiatric Ambulatory Clinic (PAC) and recently resumed involvement with the outpatient Pediatric Consultation Liaison (PCL) services. |
Dr. Stubbs has been co-facilitating ACH Quality Improvement (QI) and site meetings and has collaborated with several managerial dyad partners. He has also been part of the e-referral psychiatrists team and recently led a significant expansion of the specialist link, now providing support across Alberta, from Calgary to the southern provincial boundaries.
His primary areas of interest include the expansion and development of care pathways and working alongside colleagues in the Emergency Department (ED) and Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) to improve the efficiency and timeliness of patient care in the emergency setting. Dr. Stubbs is also passionate about medical education, delivering a variety of didactic lectures to trainees at all levels, from pre-clerkship to subspecialty, and providing supervision to new staff. He values the opportunity to collaborate with his colleagues and is eager to continue doing so in his new role. Dr. Stubbs succeeds Dr. Abdul Rahman, who served as site chief for psychiatry for over 20 years and as section chief for Inpatient Psychiatry for 10 years. During his tenure, Dr. Rahman and his dyad partners oversaw the growth and development of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program (CAAMPP). His leadership was instrumental in the recruitment of child psychiatrists in Calgary, expanding the program from about 10 to more than 30 child psychiatrists over two decades. Dr. Rahman has made significant contributions to the department in various leadership roles. |
