New Overhead Rates for Industry-Funded Research Projects As of September 1, 2024, the overhead rate for industry-funded research projects will increase from 25% to 40% to reflect similar rates at comparable U15 institutions. Overhead rates for government and not-for-profit sector-funded research will remain at 25%. Industry-funded clinical trials and technical service agreements will remain the same. |

New Mandatory Research Security Requirements for CIHR Project Grants
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has implemented mandatory research security requirements for the 2024 Fall Project Grant Competition. These requirements must be completed prior to submission of your application.
To ensure requirements are met, all nominated principal applicants MUST complete the following questionnaire prior to Monday, August 19, 2024. The questionnaire will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.

A generous $10-million gift from Stan and Marge Owerko to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation led to the creation of the Owerko Centre in 2015. |

One Child Every Child Trainee Competitions Consultation All researchers affiliated with UCalgary are invited to participate in a consultation session on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 2:00 – 3:30 PM via Zoom, for the One Child Every Child (OCEC) Trainee Excellence Awards Competitions. There is more than $1 million available for OCEC Trainee Awards in 2024/2025. This session offers an opportunity to provide feedback on the draft Terms of Reference and application criteria, as well as to engage with the Transdisciplinary Training Accelerator Co-Leaders, who will facilitate the competitions. The ACHRI & OCEC Research Retreat
The Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) & One Child Every Child (OCEC) Research Retreat on Thursday, November 21, and Friday, November 22, 2024, at MacEwan Hall in the University of Calgary.
This in-person event will focus on our collaborative work on child health and wellness research priorities within ACHRI and the One Child Every Child initiative. The retreat will feature keynote presentations, interactive working sessions, trainee presentations and the ACHRI annual general meeting.
Planning is underway with more details to come.

The 2024 Peter Lougheed Research Award Competition The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) welcomes applications for The 2024 Peter Lougheed Research Award Competition. Funds will benefit excellence in health research in Alberta, by providing salary and research support to exceptional young researchers thereby encouraging them to continue their career in the province. This competition is opened to all junior investigators with primary appointments (or to be recruited to a primary appointment) in the CSM. A Junior Investigator (researcher early career) as defined by Tri-Council (CIHR) is a researcher within five years of the date of their first independent research-related appointment (see here for exceptions). Listeria Outbreak
An outbreak of Listeria that is linked to various Silk and Great Value plant-based refrigerated beverages has been declared at a national level by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
While healthy individuals can fall ill from a Listeria infection, the disease can be fatal for unborn babies, newborns, individuals over age 60, and those with weakened immune systems.

This symposium provides a great opportunity for young researchers to share the amazing summer research projects they have been working on! The ACHRITA (Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute Trainee Association) organizing committee is seeking graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical fellows to review abstracts and serve as judges. Judges evaluate student presentations during dedicated sessions:

- 12:05 – 2:15 PM – Poster Presentations
- 2:15 – 3:45 PM – Elevator Pitch Presentations
