Code Orange Exercise on Thursday, August 22
A Code Orange (Mass Casualty Incident) exercise is being planned for our site on Thursday, August 22, 2024. The exercise will involve the Emergency Department most directly; however, an MCI can have a ripple effect on the site, and therefore your involvement in the exercise on the day of will be very important.
|
|
|
At the time of the event, there will be an overhead page indicating that there is a mock code orange. As part of the exercise, we would like to simulate the response time for how quickly we can create room in ED and on the inpatient units to have available beds for the incoming mass casualties. From an inpatient perspective:
- If you have admitted patients that could be discharged right way, we request that you attend or call the unit and work through this as an exercise- please note you will not actually discharge the patient as we do not want to impact patient care.
- We will be asking the inpatient charge nurses to connect with the physicians of admitted patients who they feel could be transitioned out of our facility so you may receive a page or two during this time. Again, your responsibility would be to respond to the charge nurses and work through this exercise of who could be discharged and by when.
- Attached is a copy of the worksheet that the inpatient charge nurses will be working through to help with awareness of what they’re going to be managing during the exercise.
From an ED perspective: If there are outstanding consults to your service for admission, ED will be looking to expedite these admissions to create capacity and you will receive a page with this request. You are asked to respond and work through the admission to help us understand how quickly this can be done. Part of the exercise will be determining the right people on your teams to respond to the competing demands across the site and work with the operational teams to prioritize the necessary actions. Thank you in advance for your participation in this exercise and for helping us test and improve our emergency disaster protocols. |

AHS Microsoft 365 Licenses In 2023, Microsoft 365 introduced a new licensing model to AHS. Information Workers with assigned computers (i.e., admin) will receive full access to the MS 365 license package, while Deskless Workers will have access to web-based apps only. Currently, 80% of AHS staff are Deskless Workers, and 20% have dedicated devices. Web-based access limitations mean certain documents (e.g., fillable forms, advanced Excel spreadsheets, macros) will not be compatible for Deskless Workers. |
