Design Camp is currently seeking Instructors for this summer's camp season. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to design and execute activities that provide ample opportunity for campers to bring their visions to life. The activities will focus on creating innovative and environmentally friendly buildings to create a magnificent cityscape. Design Camp facilitates a fun and exciting work environment with other post-secondary students while teaching and inspiring kids aged 7 – 14 to have a passion for planning and building.

Landscape in Motion (LIM) examines the relationship between urban infrastructures, cultural heritage and the human body. TURNOUT: Rethinking Community Spaces in Downtown Calgary
TURNOUT: Rethinking Community Spaces in Downtown Calgary, a symposium addressing social crises in Calgary’s downtown areas. The event is hosted by SAPL in collaboration with the City of Calgary, the Calgary Downtown Association, the Calgary Public Library, CMLC, and Bow Valley College at the City Building Design Lab downtown.
This one-day symposium on Friday, March 22, 2024 includes an input by the Downtown Safety Leadership Table with panel and discussion in the morning and keynote on the broader context of homelessness together with social design innovation and topic lead breakout discussion geared towards actionable transformation in the afternoon.

On Nov. 25, 2015, the Design Talks Institute, which works to educate the public on the value and impact of good design, dedicated one of its "d.talks" public events to a small office building on 12th Avenue S.W. in Calgary called Lacey Court.
An "unassuming but cherished building," according to the program, Lacey Court was described as "a rare example [in Calgary] of a West Coast modern style of architecture."

The City of Calgary is pleased to announce that five new City-owned land sites are now available for sale, at below-market value, to eligible non-profit organizations under The City’s Non-Market Housing Land Sale program. Using funding from the federal Housing Accelerator Fund, each site will come with funding of up to $75 000 per door to support the successful purchasers to build housing quickly.

Muhammad Fauzan Mirza — SAPL MEDes Student recently presented his research at the Peer Beyond 2024 Conference! His research delves into the role of Concrete 3D Printing (C3DP), also known as Contour Crafting, in the development of dignified, culturally appropriate Indigenous housing on reserves. The focal point of the research is the design, building, and evaluation of the "Kakatoosoyiists”, or Star Lodges project located in the Siksika Nation of Alberta.

In November 2024, a major international conference on heritage conservation will be held in Montreal, Canada. The Association for Preservation Technology (APT), National Trust for Canada, and Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) have joined forces, once again, to present the Building Bridges conference. The conference will focus on connecting places, cultures, and practices in order to bridge the knowledge gap and gain new insights upon the ongoing challenges in historic preservation, climate resiliency, and social equity.

Call for Applications - Program Recommended Awards
Please view the comprehensive SAPL-specific list of Program Recommended Awards that require application. Please note there may be other awards beyond this list, and ultimately it is up to students to identify awards for which they are eligible. Refer to the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) database to complete a personalized search. You may come across additional awards with a Sunday, April 21, 2024 deadline in the FGS database, but if there is no application information then an application is not necessary, the program will be selecting students based on academic merit for these awards.
If you are eligible and decide to apply, please fill in the SAPL Application form and submit it along with any other requirements as per the individual award and save as one PDF.

For students entering first year of a Master's Degree program in the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape (SAPL) at the University of Calgary in the upcoming Fall, who intend to incorporate a respect for practical holistic problem solving into their studies and profession as an architect, planner or landscape architect.

The Community Planning Association of Alberta (CPAA) is offering 3 scholarships, worth $500 each. To apply, please develop a poster (size 11X17 inches) that focuses on CPAA’s theme of this year’s conference: “Beyond Municipal Borders: Collaboration for Vibrant Communities”.

This scholarship is intended to provide monetary assistance to students for tuition, research, books or other academic expenses. A maximum of three (3) scholarships will be granted at $2,000 each. One award may be given to an Undergraduate degree student and two awards may be given to Masters degree students.
The APPI Student Conference Award provides monetary assistance to students attending and participating at an approved conference. A maximum of two (2) awards will be granted at $2,000 each. One award may be given to an Undergraduate degree student and one award may be given to a Masters degree student.

RAIC Foundation Scholarships
This award is open to students in the last two years of a professional degree program in a registered school of architecture anywhere in Canada, or in Part III of the RAIC Syllabus Program. Each school can select up to two (2) students to apply for this scholarship. Faculty should coordinate to ensure only two entries are submitted per school.
Full-time students who have been registered in a Master’s degree program leading to a professional degree in architecture at one of the accredited University Schools of Architecture in Canada or the RAIC Syllabus during the calendar year (2022 - 2023) in which the award is being made are eligible to apply.

The CAA Student Award will recognize the work of students in Years 1-3 which creatively addresses issues associated with social, economic, and environmental well-being in the context of the current biodiversity crisis and climate emergency.
The CAA President’s Award will recognize the work of students in Years 4, 5 & 6 which critically and creatively addresses the issues associated with social, economic, and environmental well-being in the context of the current biodiversity crisis and climate emergency.
The deadline for both the awards are Friday, May 31, 2024.
