Join us on National Indigenous Peoples Day for storytelling, traditional drumming and dancing, and interactive discussions on diverse Indigenous languages

Storytellers include:

  • Reg Crowshoe (Elder, Piikani First Nation, and UCalgary’s traditional knowledge keeper in residence)
  • Florence Kelly (Elder, Onigaming First Nation Ontario, and UCalgary alumna)
  • Curtis Lefthand (Member of the Amskaapipikuni, Siksika, and Stoney Nakoda Nations and UCalgary Law student)

EVENING - 5:30 p.m.
Campfire Chats with Traditional Knowledge Keepers

The evening topic of discussion will explore the significance of Indigenous languages and how they add to the rich tapestry of global cultural diversity.

The program will feature Traditional Knowledge Keepers from the Treaty 7 Nations, including Reg Crowshoe, Rod Hunter (Elder, Bearspaw First Nation of the Stoney Nakoda Nations), and Diane Meguinis (Elder, Tsuut'ina Nation).

Astokomii Smith, Calgary Stampede 2019 First Nations Princess, will be performing the Fancy Shawl Dance. Michael Hart, Vice-Provost, Indigenous Engagement will host the evening and Sarah Jacknife, Career Development Specialist, Indigenous, will be the emcee.
