The hub of the International Microbiome Centre (IMC) is the germ-free facility, the world’s largest space dedicated to studying the microbiome’s role in immunity and diseases.

The microbiome is a community of trillions of bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi that live in and around us and interact directly with our immune systems.

Every person has a unique microbiome that plays an instrumental role in health and wellness, protecting us from pathogens, cancer, cardiovascular disease and chronic inflammatory disease.

Studying the human microbiome will lead to greater understanding of many diseases and conditions including inflammatory bowel disease, Type 1 diabetes and cancer.
