Sleep Yoga - The best of both worlds!
Yes, it is possible to have a nap and wake up realizing that you are enlightened. Sleep and Yoga together….what could be better!
Join us Wednesdays at 12 p.m. for the guided practice of Yoga Nidra (sleep in Sanskrit) in which you learn to experience being awake and asleep at the same time. Sometimes called NSDR (non sleep deep rest), this 30-minute practice is shown to be equivalent to 2 - 4 hours of sleep and results in feeling less stress, anxiety and fatigue. Plus you feel refreshed and accepting of yourself just as you are.
Each session begins with a brief discussion about the practice and orientation to the flavour of the day: breath, body sensation, emotions, thoughts, bliss. Then everyone is invited to get comfortable for a 20-30 minute nap and ‘fall awake’ to the gentle sounds of chimes, drone, temple bell and the guiding words of this ancient practice. This event is free of charge and is open to all UCalgary students, faculty and staff.
