Siksikakowan:
The Blackfoot man

Join us for a free viewing of the film "Siksikakowan: The Blackfoot man", directed by Trevor Solway, with special remarks from Calgary Public Library CEO Sarah Meilleur, BA’01, and UCalgary’s Dr. Michael Hart, vice-provost (Indigenous Engagement).

"Siksikakowan: The Blackfoot man" is an intimate portrait of Indigenous masculinity told through the eyes of filmmaker Sinakson, Trevor Solway. Returning to his home nation of Siksika, Solway shares the lives of fathers, sons, artists, athletes and DJs as they navigate what it means to be a man in a world that often misunderstands and stigmatizes them.

Growing up with the pressure to “cowboy up,” Solway quietly unpacks the rigid ideals of manhood through conversations rooted in kinship and lived experience. Set against the sweeping backdrop of the Prairies, the film follows generations of Blackfoot men and boys as they explore strength, vulnerability, identity and love.
