For almost seven years Healthy Child Uganda at Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Southwestern Uganda has partnered with the University of Calgary and Common Language Digital Storytelling to create short films that start meaningful conversations about health and wellness issues. A unique model of Digital Storytelling (DST) facilitation was developed through this partnership for use in the African context and this presentation will provide an overview of this work as well as showcase the documentary film, A Shared Dream, that illustrates how these stories are used to start conversations about difficult topics in Uganda. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how to utilize audiovisual storytelling in a lower resource context to support gender equality public health goals.
