The Engineering for Humanity event series explores how engineering solutions are developed here and around the world, and how they are impacting our society and improving lives. We are proud to showcase the excellent work of our female engineers and engineering students.  You will interact with our current students to learn about their perspectives including how internship, student clubs, and global and experiential learning opportunities are enriching their experience and shaping their goals.

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization announced the COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic. Schools, shops, and workplaces were quickly closed in hopes to slow down the spread of the virus. Personal protective equipment and life-saving ventilators were in serious shortage.    In the fight against COVID-19, engineers  are behind-the-scene heroes. They use their knowledge and creativity, and through collaboration with healthcare professionals, they are uncovering solutions to the pandemic. Discover how engineers from the University of Calgary are responding to the biggest health crisis of our time with accelerated innovation.

Conversations with a Rhodes Scholar

The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and perhaps most prestigious international scholarship program,  enabling outstanding young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford. Manpreet Deol is one of two Rhodes Scholars from the University of Calgary.

Join us for a conversation with Manpreet, a recent graduate of mechanical and biomedical engineering. From a young age, Manpreet has been fascinated with the role that language and technology play in enabling humans to communicate. Uncover her passion for innovation and how it can help individuals with learning disabilities. 

Building the Engineering Program that Works for You

Women in Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence has the potential to fundamentally change the world we live in. It can inform how solutions are designed that are easy the implement, with less material and energy consumption, and more reliable and sustainable outcomes. At the same time, if not done right, AI could create more inequity and inequality in society. In this talk, we will feature the on-going research and development undertaken by our female researchers and engineers and how they develop solutions using AI and digital technologies to achieve positive outcomes.
