Within the general Canadian population, about one in five people struggle with mental illness per year (Mental Health Commission of Canada, 2017). Wellness can and does affect students, faculty and staff at the University of Calgary, and it is an issue in which we can all play a role. In this session we will give a brief overview of mental health and wellness, with connections to course design. The majority of the session will be spent discussing and identifying course design strategies that have the potential to promote mental health and wellness for instructors.
