Sustainable Development and Population Dynamics
With global population predicted to exceed 9.7 billion by 2030, this will place increasing pressure on the planet’s finite resources. The continued growth of human population, urbanization and societies’ consumptive behaviours are causing significant impacts on the planet in accelerating the pace of climate change and environmental degradation while worsening global inequalities such as poverty, disease and debt. These issues pose a cumulative and global challenge for present and future generations. How do we ensure sustainable development of our planet and societies in the face of these population dynamics and consumptive behaviours?
