KidSONO, a leading point-of-care ultrasound initiative, is dedicated to enhancing the safety and quality of care at the Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) through education and leadership in point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS). The KidSONO program includes an on-line training environment and facilitates hands-on skill acquisition training sessions. The goals of the KidSONO program are to improve the safety and quality of care provided at the Alberta Children’s Hospital through education and leadership in PoCUS. Specifically, the program goals are to:
- Increase access to point-of-care ultrasound across pediatric disciplines
- Develop and deliver high quality, pediatric specific, educational content to clinicians at the ACH
- Evaluate the impact of education on clinician practice
- Use feedback to optimize content and program delivery
- Improve the integration of point-of-care ultrasound into clinical workflows
To date, KidSONO has created educational content that is being used across disciplines within the Alberta Children's Hospital and at the leading academic pediatric centers across Canada. Additionally, KidSONO has created a pediatric point-of-care ultrasound fellowship, further underscoring its commitment to advancing care through education. |

Strategic Planning Engagement Survey - Summary Report
Thank you to those who completed the strategic planning engagement survey!
Click here to view the summary report.
Over the next few weeks, there will be a second opportunity to share your thoughts at your respective section meetings.
|
|
|
The consultant engaged in this process will present the findings and invite discussion about whether or not they resonate with you, and what might be missing from the preliminary engagement. This is an excellent opportunity to highlight both section specific needs and also overarching opportunities for the Department. A summary of the section engagement sessions will be completed and used to inform a leadership strategic planning retreat on May 10. Thank you again for your ongoing engagement in shaping the future of the Department! |

Honoring Dr. McArthur's Legacy Through Giving Day Campaign
As we welcome the month of April, we would like to share exciting news about a special initiative at the Cumming School of Medicine. A gift from an anonymous donor has sparked the creation of the Dr. Robert McArthur Memorial Endowment Fund, in memory of the late Dr. McArthur.
Dr. McArthur served as the department head of Pediatrics from 1986 to 1991. His influential contributions to pediatric diabetes education and unwavering support for families, patients, and students made a significant difference in our community.
|
|
|
His namesake fund will support an annual community event called, ‘Diabetes Discovery Day.’ This event provides a platform for medical professionals to educate children diagnosed with diabetes and their parents about self-care and shared care, empowering them to manage their condition effectively. While Diabetes Discovery Day paused during the COVID-19 pandemic, the endowment funding will assure this impactful program continues annually. We are thrilled to announce that as part of the University of Calgary's Giving Day Campaign, any donation made to the Dr. Robert McArthur Memorial Endowment Fund will be matched, up to $2,500.00, while matching funds are available. This fundraising initiative, running from Thursday, April 4 to Thursday, April 18, provides a unique opportunity to enhance the value and of the endowment and expand the impact of Diabetes Discovery Day. Donations can be made online (Dr. Robert McArthur Memorial Fund - Giving Day), by phone, cheque and gift of securities. Gifts of $25 and over are eligible for tax receipts. Dr. McArthur's legacy continues to be a beacon for those in the Department of Pediatrics and beyond. By contributing to the fund, you support the University of Calgary’s mission to honor a remarkable figure in our history. For more information about the fund or how to contribute, please contact [email protected], the associate director of development at the Cumming School of Medicine. Let's unite in honoring Dr. McArthur's legacy and continue his mission of empowering our community through education and care. |
