The impact of climate change in the Arctic is already evident and will be widespread. News headlines often focus on melting ice, increasing industrial development, and loss of habitat for animals like polar bears and whales. But we also need to consider the impact on Arctic communities, and the less obvious parts of the food web that those communities rely on.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Brent Else is an assistant professor in the Department of Geography in UCalgary's Faculty of Arts. He is an Arctic scientist with a broad array of research interests, including air-sea gas exchange, marine carbon cycles, ocean acidification, and sea ice energy balance. He also manages a network of community-based weather stations that are designed to help Northern people travel safely through the Arctic marine environment.
