Join us for International Development Week (IDW)

Opening Ceremony 

The opening event will feature a keynote address by Janice Eisenhauer, ‎Executive Director at Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan, who will provide her reflection on the importance of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals in the context of human rights and access to education.

Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Dru Marshall will provide a welcome address and Sandra Jansen, MLA for Calgary-North West will offer opening remarks at the event.

Time: 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Place: Alberta Room, Dining Centre, University of Calgary

Refreshments will be provided.


Sustainable Development Goals in Focus

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) offer a platform to respond to the most pressing world challenges. Governments, private organizations and civil society are called to advance the SDGs. This event will examine the SDGs from different perspectives and will provide context around their implementation.

Date: Tuesday, February 7

Time: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Place: Great Hall, Rozsa Centre, University of Calgary

Lunch will be provided.


He Named Me Malala - Film Screening

He Named Me Malala is an intimate portrait of Malala Yousafzai, who was wounded when Taliban gunmen opened fire on her and her friends’ school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley after she spoke out on behalf of girls’ education. Watch trailer.

Time: 5: 30 - 8 p.m.

Place: Science Theatre 145, University of Calgary

Refreshments will be provided.
